CWC since 1939
Since the founding of the town of Creston, the ladies of the community have had the same desire they have today: that of getting together in a social way to meet their neighbors, old and new, and share items of community interest. With this need in mind, the beginning of the present club was begun in 1939. At that time the name was slightly different, "The Creston Community Club."
In 1954 new by-laws were written, the name changed to the Creston Women's Club, with its objectives being to assist in the social, economic, and cultural interests of the community. There was no formal roster of members as every woman in the community of Creston and its outlying area was welcome to come. No dues were charged; thus no one was barred due to financial reasons.
Once a year a fund raising project was undertaken with the proceeds going to improve the clubhouse and the supplies it contained such as dishes, cooking and serving utensils, tables and chairs. Other fund raising proceeds were used for community improvement. During the past years the women of the club have provided the clubhouse with an electric water heater and stove, refrigerator, dishes, flatware for table use, coffee makers, serving pieces, and from time to time a new paint job for the interior.
in the 1980s the Creston Women's Club underwent major changes. The ladies of the current Women's Club had offered the organization to this younger, more active group to continue the line of the original "Creston Women's Club (CWC)" which was begun in 1954. Beginning with a few women, post cards were sent to area women and a meeting was called of all the women in Creston to see if there was an interest for a new organization, or take up with the original club. There were so many creative and talented women in the area that a revitalized Creston Women's Club started off with bang.
This group of ladies became the leading organization in Creston, developing a scholarship fund of $250 Holquin's Loading Chute. Now on their own, the CWC offers more sizeable annual scholarships to Creston area locals. The club also contributes to the Garden, Christmas Eve, Halloween, CATCH, and CWC even has an Emergency Fund for local residents in sudden need. The fund raisers are well thought out and most successful, including the Spaghetti Feed and Bloody Mary contest. The CWC women all pitch in and work hard while enjoying each other's company. It is often said, the Women's Club has so much fun working together, the area is left clean and in better shape than before they were there.
The future of the Creston Women's Club has an ever changing horizon.
